ChatTable of contentsBrowser ClientDesktop ClientYou can use any desktop IRC client to connect to the chat server. Desktop clients can run in the background so you can stay logged in without having to worry about your browser windows (and can stay logged in more than 5 minutes to give anyone around a chance to reply)To connect using your own client, you'll need to know:
irc://irc.timothyb89.org/#robotics Recommended Clients
Register Your NicknameOnce connected, you can change your nickname using the command "/nick newnick". When you find a nickname that you want to keep (preferably the same name you use here on the site), you'll need to register it with NickServ, the bot that manages nickname registration and login. To do so, type:/msg nickserv register $password$ $email$ Where $password$ and $email$ are, obviously, your password and email. When you connect again, you'll need to log in. You'll need to talk to nickserv again: /msg nickserv login $password$ Make Your OwnIf you want to make your own chat room (for your VEX team or something along those lines), you can add your own widget like the one above to any wiki page using the following: {MIBBIT()}irc://irc.timothyb89.org/#YOURCHANNELHERE{MIBBIT} Where YOURCHANNELHERE is the name (no spaces or special characters) of the room you want to make. If needed/wanted/etc, you can also use a different IRC server- just change 'irc.timothyb89.org' to whatever server you want to use. After joining the room, you should be given channel operator status and should be allowed to register the channel. To do so, type: /msg chanserv register CHANNEL PASSWORD DESCRIPTION After registering, you can regain channel operator status at any time by typing: /msg chanserv op #CHANNEL |
